Redbox today announced it will offer video game rentals at more than 21,000 locations nationwide starting on June 17. A test market for video game rentals began in August 2009, and with nearly 64 percent of people in the U.S. owning some form of gaming console, it only makes sense that we can now pick up the latest and greatest titles when we need some milk and bread.
Game rentals will cost $2 a day, compared to $1 for DVDs and $1.50 for Blu-ray rentals. As part of its test market, which included 5,000 locations, more than one million games were rented in less than two years.
All three major platforms, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii, will be supported and titles will range from top releases to popular family and kid titles. There are other rental options, but if you live in any urban area in the U.S., you know how easy it is to find a Redbox. This means you can check out new releases with an impulse rental before you buy.
